Metroplitan area network(MAN)

A network connection that can be implemented within a city called MAN.It occupies the physical area larger than a city is called MAN.It occupies the physical area larger than a LAN but smaller than a WAN

A MAN is typically owned and operator by a single entity such as a government body or large corporation.MAN network is also used to mean the interconnection of several local area network

Advantage:

• It supports both text and voice


• It allows data sharing between LAN's


• More number of users

Disadvantage:

• More cable required for a MAN connection from one place to another


• The Larger the network becomes difficult to manage


• It is difficult to make the system secure from hackers & Industrial espionage
