Network criteria is a standard of factors that affects the network performance

Performance:

Performance is defined as the rate of tramsferrimg error free data.It measured by response time.Response time is the time between the end of inquiry and the beginning of a response.Factors that affect the performance are

a).Number of users:

When more number of users,uses the network,it will decrease the performance of a network

b.)Transmission speed:

It depicts the speed,that data will be transmitted in the network.it is measured in bits per second

c.)Type of transmission medium:

Transmission mediumis the physical connection used to connect the nodes together.By using high-end transmission medium such as fiber.optics it will improve the performance of a network

d.)Hardware used:

By using high speed processor with higher memory capacity improves the performance

e.)Software used:

By using the appropriate software and the needed protocols,the performance of the network can be improved

Consistency:

Consistency representsthe response time and accurancy of data

• Users prefer to have consistent response times


• Accurancy of the data determines whether the network is reliable or not

Reliability:

Reliability is the measure of how often a network is used.MTBF is a measure of the average time a device is expected to operate between failures. The factors that affect the reliability are

a)Frequency of failure:Reduced frequency of failure improves the reliability.

b)Recovering Time:Fast recovery after failure improves the reliability

c)Natural disasters:When the network are protected from earthquake ,the fire,theft will improve the reliability

Recovery:

recovery is the network's ability to return to level of operation after network failure

Security:

Security is the protection of hardware,software and data from unauthorized access

a)Unauthorized access:

allowing only the authorized users improves the security.it can be done by the restricted physical access to computer,password protection,limiting user privileges,data encryption etc

b)Viruses

By protecting hardware and software from viruses using the anti virus monitoring programs improves the security
