Star topology

Star topology is the most common type of network topology that is used in home and offices. In star topology there is central connection point called the hub or switchHub

The star topology typically needs more cable to be networked than bus topology. In the star topology, the entire network id dependent on he hub so if the entire network is not working.then there could be a problem with the HUB

Each node in the star topology is identified by the unique network address. If a device wants to send a data to another device,it sends the controller. The controller receives the data & re-directs it to the proper address called destination

Advantage:

  • Easy to manage because of its simplcity and functionality

  • Problems can be easily located

  • Easy for troubleshooting

  • Easy to add new devices

Disadvantage:

  • If the hub fails, the entire network is fails

  • if there are many nodes and the cable is long then the entire network may slow down
